everyone's learning something

here are a few words my friend kelso sent to me about her current time in Belize - mission

Hey again friend,

So inspired by your blog, I thought I'd give you a list of things I've learned about Belize so far.

- Mosquitos love me here, no matter how much bug spray I put on

- There is no welfare system here, so there are TONS of beggars on the street, and the kids know when they see Americans to run up to them and say "dolla! dolla!"

- I think everyone in Belize City knows Sister Rita (the older lady whose church we're having VBS at), and they all respect her.

- We can't expect our plans to work out. As a team we're learning to throw our expectations out the window and become more flexible with their culture.

- Belize is a beautiful place, but there is a huge littering...or more like dumping. If you ask where a trash can is sometimes people will say "ah just throw it some where".

- They are big on 7-11 songs...or more like 3-25.

- Broken English (Creole) is a LOT harder to understand then it sounds, even though English is their official language.

- I've never related to Proverbs 25:25 more than I have this week so far.

- And on that note, even though it's hot here, I think it's worse at home because the humidity is worse.

- You can juice a cantaloupe (and it's not bad)

- Geckos crawling on the walls is normal

- I'm pretty sure 'Lord I Lift Your Name On High' is known internationally

- Even though this is an entirely different culture, I'm still reminded of Belarus this week. (I just hope it's not annoying anyone).

- Kat's voice sounds like a little kid, according to one of the workers at the hotel, but the worker said she likes it.

- The people here desire to bless us, and they have.

I think that's it so far.

Kelsey

p.s. i'm taking a liking to Christian reggae.

thanks for the update kelso!
